Rina Spano Memorial Scholarship
Caldwell University Alumni Association Rina Spano, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship
The Rina Spano Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student with excellent academic promise, who also reflects true dedication to the University and community.
A graduate of the Class of 1970, Rina was also a member of the executive board of Caldwell College Alumni Association. As chairperson of the Sociology & Criminal Justice Department, she oversaw the creation of the school’s Criminal Justice program and was named the first associate dean of Graduate Studies.
Requirements:
Eligible applicants must be direct relatives of Caldwell University alumni (parents, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews), who have graduated with an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Advanced degrees from Caldwell University. Cousins are not eligible.
The scholarship is available to students at any point in their academic career.
Eligible applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Scholarship is used only for tuition and books.
The student must submit the most current transcript (from the portal).
Students must show financial need through the following acceptable forms: FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid office, a financial statement/document, or a letter detailing financial need along with an interview.
The scholarship is awarded for a period of one academic year.
Awardees are requested to attend the Annual Scholarship Luncheon and participate in two Alumni events.

First-time applicants:
Complete the attached application and submit it along with financial documents/details, a 200-word typed essay outlining your academic endeavors, plans, and goals for the future, and any additional information you feel the scholarship committee should consider. First-time applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from the sponsoring alumna/us to whom they are related.
Returning applicants:
Provide updated financial documentation, current unofficial transcript from the Portal, along with any additional information you feel the scholarship committee should consider (additional letter of recommendation not required).

The Alumni Scholarship program, which was established by the Caldwell College Alumni Association in 1949, has been awarding scholarships and continues to assist students in offsetting the cost of their education.
The scholarship will be above any Institutional Funds already awarded to the student.
Caldwell University Alumni Association The Sister Joanna Tracy, O.P.
The Sister Joanna Tracy, O.P. Alumni Scholarship was established in 2023 by the Alumni Board of Caldwell University to honor the Association’s founder, Sister Joanna Tracy, O.P.
The Caldwell College Alumnae Association was established in 1943. The name was later changed to the Caldwell College Alumni Association in 1986 when the college became co-educational. Sister Joanna, the first moderator, also had the foresight to establish the Shore Chapter of the Association. Sister served in various capacities in Caldwell University, notably as Dean of Women and Professor of Natural Sciences. She was an enthusiastic believer in volunteerism and served as a liaison between Caldwell College and the Peace Corps.
This Scholarship will assist Caldwell University students to reach their chosen career goals and reduce financial challenges by providing funds for tuition and books associated with the University’s academic programs. The objective of this scholarship is to award and recognize a student who exhibits a volunteer spirit through ongoing community service.

Caldwell University Alumni Association Shore Chapter Jane Haveron Student Scholarship
Jane Haveron, Class of 1944, worked closely with Sister Joanna Tracy, O.P., moderator of the Alumni Association to establish a Shore Chapter. As a result of this chapter’s fundraising over the years, an endowed scholarship was established to be awarded to a female student in the process of completing her degree.
It is the hope of the Shore Chapter of the Caldwell University Alumni Association that this scholarship will reduce the financial burden of an education and encourage the awarded student to reach her goal of graduation.

Caldwell University GPA of 3.0 or higher
An essay describing yourself and future plans, and any additional information you feel the scholarship committee should consider.
