The degree required for a medical doctor is either Doctor of Allopathic Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.); both usually take four years. Both types of doctors go through similar preparation and training, and can enter the various medical specialties with the appropriate residency program. Medical programs generally require students to have a 4-year undergraduate degree.
