With over 35 years of nursing practice, I am delighted to share my enthusiasm for higher education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Over the years, I have focused on direct-patient care and nursing education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, I have served in several administrative roles. I am a Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Services, teaching in both the Nursing and Public Health departments. I am currently the Graduate Program Coordinator for the MSN and MPH programs. I am also the Chair of the Department of Public Health. My clinical areas of expertise include chronic disease management with a focus on diabetes. My own Doctor of Nursing Practice project focused on transitional care nursing, and my current practice involves ensuring the highest level of quality care is being provided to one of the most vulnerable populations. Throughout my professional practice, I aim to provide high-quality care and education to those with chronic disease by communicating, collaborating, and applying evidence-based practice to promote the best outcomes. As a Professor, I am dedicated to promoting student success and positive program outcomes. I believe a student’s success is built through being an active, engaged learner, receiving positive mentoring, and being exposed to varied experiential learning opportunities. I enjoy problem-solving and collaborating with colleagues to build programs to meet needs and improve outcomes. I am an active member of the New Jersey State Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau- Psi Mu Chapter, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES). I maintain certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP-BC),and through ADCES as Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM). I graduated from one of the last hospital associated certificate nursing programs in 2010. I worked in the Emergency Department for about 10 years in which I learned a lot about the disparities in the US healthcare system. My experiences inspired me to go back to school, I earned my Masters Degree in Science of Nursing with a specialty in Nursing Administration. I currently run the nursing department at a skilled nursing facility. I have a passion for teaching, especially those who have chosen to work within the healthcare system, teaching them how to balance managing people, health, healthcare systems, and how these things effect the business of the healthcare setting. |
