Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice! The department offers a B.A. in Sociology, a B.A. in Criminal Justice, as well as three minors to give our students the most well-rounded education to be agents of change. Our criminal justice alumni move on to exciting careers in state, local, and federal law enforcement, private security, and more. Sociology alumni are working in advocacy and community outreach, data analysis, and pursuing postgraduate study in sociology or MSW programs. Faculty in our department are experts in their fields whether they are studying social problems behind the scenes or working in their fields day to day.
Our department takes an applied approach where students participate in internship programs, independent studies, and research internships with faculty. We also offer professional development opportunities for students to meet practitioners in the field, including our annual Sociology and Criminal Justice Career Fair and information sessions with various agencies (such as the Drug Enforcement Administration).
