1.) Sigma Tau Delta Pays You Back: Scholarships, Internships, and Leadership Opportunities

2.) Sigma Tau Delta Journal Internship
A paid three-month internship opportunity is available with the Sigma Tau Delta Journals. Will provide three Sigma Tau Delta student members (undergraduate or graduate) with editorial and publication experience.
Length of internship: May 11 until August 11
Location: Remote
Application deadline: March 23, 2021.
CTE Communications Internship
Sigma Tau Delta encourages student members with a focus on communications and/or journalism to apply for the NCTE Communications Internship, which will support the 2020 NCTE Convention.
The intern will travel to the convention site in Denver, CO, to cover the Convention from November 19 to 22, 2020.
The application deadline is Monday, June 22, 2020, 11:59 p.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT).

Penguin Random House Internships
Paid internship opportunities are available from Penguin Random House to provide interested undergraduate student members of Sigma Tau Delta with experience in the publishing industry.
Applications Accepted: December 8, 2019-January 13, 2020 for Summer 2020
The summer internship will run ten consecutive weeks in New York City (NYC), June 1 – August 7.
The recipient will work 28 hours per week, earning $15.00 per hour. Sigma Tau Delta will provide the recipient an additional $1,500 stipend to assist with expenses. http://www.english.org/career/internships/penguin.shtml
Outstanding Literary Arts Journal Award:
Qualifications:
- The journal was produced during the 2018-2019 academic year.
- The journal was produced with a percentage of involvement by Sigma Tau Delta chapter members.
- The journal follows the publication guidelines of the chapter’s college or university.
- The journal contains a statement that clearly describes the involvement of the chapter in the production of the journal.
- First place recipients cannot apply the following year.
- Application requirements
- Complete the online application where you will be asked to upload a PDF of your journal.
- Mail two printed copies of the journal to Outstanding Literary Arts Journal Award Application Link
- The submission link will be open through November 11, 2019.
Study Abroad Scholarships (up to $3,000) (Offered Biannually)
Deadline: November 11, 2019
- The scholarship provides up to $3,000 for the purpose of studying in a program that furthers the applicant’s engagement with Sigma Tau Delta’s mission for an academic term or year in a certified, undergraduate program outside the country in which the nominating chapter is located. Applicants should demonstrate academic scholarship and chapter service; they also must explain the relevance of their study abroad program and activities to fostering the discipline of English, including literature, language, writing, or literacy.
- Study abroad scholarships are determined in two stages: recipients of the first round (who have applied in the fall) are announced in December, and those in the second round (who have applied in the spring) will be notified in early May. Successful fall scholarship applications can be used for study abroad from January through December of the subsequent year. Unsuccessful fall applications are eligible to re-apply in the spring, but a new application must be completed.

Summer Program Scholarships (up to $1,500) (Offered Biannually)
Deadline: November 11, 2019
- These scholarships are for active undergraduate members, including seniors who are about to graduate at the time of application. The scholarship provides up to $1,500 for the purpose of attending a special summer program, either in the U.S. or abroad, which furthers the applicant’s engagement with Sigma Tau Delta’s mission. Qualifying summer programs must be at least three weeks in length and no longer than three months. Applicants should demonstrate academic scholarship and chapter service and must explain the relevance of their summer program to fostering their engagement in the discipline of English, including literature, language, writing, or literacy.
Note: This scholarship cannot be used toward a regular summer session at the student’s home institution.

Chapter Project Grants
Deadline: November 11, 2019 for Spring 2020 semester
- Sigma Tau Delta’s Project Grants are designed to encourage local chapters to be innovative in developing projects that further the goals of the Society.
- The Society will award a limited number of grants, for no more than $500 each, to support local chapter activities.
- Funds may be requested for separate projects or for parts of larger projects, and chapters should explore ways to use Project Grants in combination with funds secured from other sources. Funds may be requested for ongoing projects, but there is no guarantee that projects funded during one grant period will receive funding in future grant periods. http://www.english.org/schol-award-grant/grants/index.shtml
Sigma Tau Delta Internship Stipend
- Sigma Tau Delta offers funding for current undergraduate and graduate student members accepting non- or low-paying internships. The Internship Stipend is a competitive program providing a limited number of stipends of up to $1,500 each.
- The internship must involve working for an “organization” while being directed by a supervisor/mentor within that organization, and the intern’s duties must be consistent with the applicant’s level of education, area of study, and career goals. Financial need will be taken into consideration in addition to internship length. Applicants are responsible for obtaining and providing verification of the internship.

Writing with Style! The MLA Student Paper Contest
The Modern Language Association seeks submissions from students of exemplary research papers written in MLA style for publication on The MLA Style Center.
- Winners will be published on the site, and the authors of accepted papers will receive a certificate and a $50 gift card to an online bookstore. Each student may submit one paper for consideration by the committee.
- Length: 2,000–3,000 words. Works-cited-list entries do not count toward the word limit.
- Language: Papers must be written in English.

SIGMA TAU DELTA 2020 INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION MARCH 25 – 28, 2020 LAS VEGAS, NV
- Eligible Sigma members may submit:
- one (1) of the following papers: original critical essay, creative non-fiction, poetry collection, OR original prose (short story, flash fiction, drama, or screenplay);
- one (1) additional paper submission on the Common Reader: Red: Passion and Patience in the Desert, by Terry Tempest Williams;
- and/or one (1) group proposal for a roundtable session.
- Deadline: Monday, October 28, 2019, 5:00 p.m.
- Acceptance and denial notifications will be emailed on Monday, December 16, 2019.
