The Mueller Gallery at Caldwell University is excited to present ¡Jabong!, an exhibition featuring the work of artist Daniel Giordano. The exhibition will be held from Wednesday, Oct. 29th to Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, 2025. An artist’s talk will take place at the Mueller Gallery on Wednesday, October 29 from 5-6pm followed by a reception from 6-8pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Daniel Giordano’s work ranges from intimate to large-scale assemblage sculptures in addition to drawings, paintings, soundscapes, photographs, and multi-channeled video installations. His work embodies notions of Italian-American culture, cherished loved ones, the dysfunctional home life he experienced with his older brother, and his love for tennis. Giordano grew up in Newburgh, NY where he still lives and creates his work using materials unique to his life and history in Newburgh. He makes use of scraps from his family’s coat manufacturing and upholstery businesses, pieces of Newburgh’s industrial landscape, discarded “clinker” bricks, deer bones, and water caltrops in his local ecosystem. These are combined with carved wood, ceramic, and cast aluminum, often adorned with a variety of substances that relate to the body including lipstick, hosiery, marzipan, and urinal cakes. Giordano immortalizes these materials with a thorough drenching of various resins and sealants.

In Giordano’s playful two-dimensional work, he employs graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, and collage. His drawing approach includes fastidious hand-cut collages, drawing with lipstick, manipulating paper pulp around a drawn image to yield a fuzzy dimensional texture, or making observational ink drawings in the rain as a treatment to warp the paper and bleed the image. These works exist in a realm that the sculptures do not, creating dreamlike scenes with motifs often inspired by tender observations, the notion of time, or a memorable film scene, created by my distinctive hand.

Daniel earned his MFA from the University of Delaware in 2016 and his BBA from Pace University in 2011. He participated in the Millay Arts Core Residency Program in 2024, the AIM Fellowship at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in 2021, and the EmergeNYC fellowship at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics in 2015. His work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions on the national and international level and has been featured in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, Sculpture Magazine, and White Hot Magazine, among others.
