It was a transformative day of self-discovery at this year’s annual conference, Entitled Becoming a ShapeShifter: Exploring Our Ecological Identities on Sunday, April 14 on the Caldwell University Campus.  The conference opened with the Membership Meeting of the New Jersey Art Therapy Association. This was followed by the Annual Conference hosted by Caldwell University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Concentration Program . The day’s seminars and group sessions were designed to explore how we can become shapeshifters in our own lives through conversation, art making, and connection with nature.

Dr. Dan Summer, Ph.D., LPAT, LAC, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS, Eymmy Angeles, Graduate Assistant and Brigitt Yermakov, Graduate Assistant kicked-off the event with an engaging keynote address, entitled Ecopoesis: The Arts Create an Ecological Civilization, followed by various speakers and presentations from students and professionals who shared their own insight into what it means to be a shapeshifter in adapting to our world.

As part of the event, attendees joined Adam Kerins of the Zoological Society of New Jersey for an outdoor Bioblitz. Attendees also created Found Object Sculptures led by the Caldwell University Faculty. Fifteen pounds of garbage were collected from campus while engaged in these activities.
