League of Women Voters Hosts Meet the Candidates Event at Caldwell University
Caldwell, NJ – Caldwell University was honored to host the League of Women Voters (LWV) and their sponsors for Meet the Candidates, a forum for the candidates in the upcoming special election for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional district to fill the seat vacated by Mikie Sherrill. There were more than 300 members of the community in attendance, demonstrating the public’s interest in their government.
The event began with an opportunity for each of the candidates to speak on who they are, what they stand for and their plans for the state, should they get elected. The candidates spoke on their plans to lower living costs for New Jersey families and support our democracy. For more information on the candidates and their stances on the issues, visit the League of Women Voters website, their YouTube channel, or the candidates’ individual websites.
The second half of the evening featured a meet and greet, where members of the community could ask specific questions and get to know their potential upcoming Congressional representative.
This informative event gave members of NJ-11 and surrounding areas the unique opportunity to speak directly with potential representatives, and get involved in this important election. It also gave the candidates an opportunity to meet their constituents face-to-face.
The special election was prompted by Governor-elect Mikie Sherril’s newly vacant seat in Congress. The special primary election will take place Thursday, Feb. 5, with early voting available Jan. 29 through Feb. 3. The special general election will be held Thursday, April 16, with early voting available April 6 through April 14.
