Celebrating 25 Years of Caldwell University’s Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Concentration
Caldwell, NJ – Caldwell University’s Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Concentration program has been molding students into dynamic mental health professionals for 25 years.
This multi-faceted program is a combination of didactic and experiential teaching methods in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior and professional dispositions) learning domains. It is designed to prepare students to administer counseling and art therapy services upon graduation who are then eligible for licensure in both professions. The program integrates a unique experiential teaching method where students engage in learning through artmaking as well as more traditional teaching methods.
The program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Caldwell University is the only university in New Jersey to provide an entry level education in art therapy. It’s the largest CAAHEP accredited program in the country.
Graduates of this program are set up for success, with 100% of graduates employed 4 months after graduation last year.
“We are the best trained students out there,” says Cindy Concannon, M.A. ‘19, Director of The Mary Jo Rolli Codey Center, “I can tell you, from both being an intern and then from bringing on interns into this site and talking to other directors of other sites, that our interns are the ones who are requested and looked for because we are so well trained here at Caldwell.”
The students in this program get practical experience working with clients at The Mary Jo Rolli Codey Center on the campus. The Mary Jo Rolli Codey Center was established to serve the local community, expanding treatment access for those who need it with the option of a sliding scale.
