EDUCATION B.A. University of Maryland, College Park Through his research, teaching, and clinical work, Dr. Ling strives to create opportunities for individuals to succeed in their careers. His research interests include transitions in academic settings, the career transitions of educationally disadvantaged youth, diversity issues, and late adolescent development. Dr. Ling teaches courses on career counseling, crisis counseling, law and ethics in counseling, and research methods. Dr. Ling has authored numerous publications in counseling and developmental journals. He is the director of the Caldwell Counseling Research Lab (https://sites.google.com/site/counselingresearchlab/) and coordinates the Caldwell HelpLine, a free, anonymous, and non-judgmental telephone hotline that is provides telephone counseling to the community. In his leisure time, he enjoys running and rock climbing. |

Karla Batres

Dr. Batres is an associate professor and a bilingual cognitive scientist interested in language and learning in the School of Psychology and Counseling at Caldwell University. Dr. Bates was an undergraduate at Saint Peter’s University where she majored in Psychology and Spanish. She then received an MA in Experimental Psychology followed by a Ph.D in Cognitive Science from Stony Brook University, where she worked with Dr. Susan E. Brennan. Before joining Caldwell University, Dr. Batres worked briefly for Nuance Communications where she helped design automated systems for businesses. Dr. Batres enjoys teaching teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and strives to share her passion for psychological science with others. |

B.A. Jersey City State College M.A. Caldwell University Ms. Farina’s research experience includes electrophysiological research on the biomolecular basis of learning and memory at Rutgers University. Her professional development course experience includes extensive PhD level courses in research design, data analysis, cognition, learning, and neurophysiology. Presently, her professional interest has centered on teaching methods that facilitate learning in the undergraduate classroom. Ms. Farina began teaching at Caldwell University in 2001, and teaches courses primarily in BioPsychology, Learning, Statistics, Experimental Psychology, and General Psychology. She is also an On-Line course developer and instructor. She has a passion for student service and takes pride in her belief that teaching is a privilege. In her “off” time, she is an adventurer at heart and spends most of her free time hiking and traveling. |

Dr. Emma L. Kendrick is currently an Associate Professor in the Graduate Counseling program, at Caldwell University. Dr. Kendrick joined Caldwell in the fall of 2012 and teaches graduate courses specifically focused on clinical mental health counseling. In addition to teaching, she also serves as the Program Coordinator for the Graduate Counseling program, in the School of Psychology and Counseling. In her time at Caldwell, Dr. Kendrick has been honored with the “Dream Catcher” and “Graduate Faculty Mentorship” awards, both recognizing her ongoing commitment to counselor education. Dr. Kendrick is fully certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey, and also holds the national certification of Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Her research interests surround counselor competency, counselor screening/selection (in graduate admissions process), and counselor education pedagogy. Dr. Kendrick uses her research to provide workshops throughout the local community, in addition to presenting regularly at national and international conferences. |

Sara Parikh

Grief and loss is Dr. Parikh’s main area of interest, with a focus on understanding and increasing peer support among college students. Other areas of interest include empathy, multiculturalism, mentorship, first-generation college students, and resiliency. She is an active member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling, an international, interdisciplinary professional organization for those who work with the dying or the bereaved, and has also been involved with National Students of AMF, a network of peer support groups for grieving college students. She enjoys fiction, amigurumi (crochet toys), and long leisurely walks. |

Renee Shand-Lubbers is a licensed professional counselor, and counselor educator who focuses her teaching, research, and scholarship on multicultural counseling competency and advocacy development. She has presented at state, regional, and national conferences and published several book chapters on counseling issues related to culturally responsive counseling practice and supervision. With master’s degrees in education and counseling, she has also worked with student and client populations as both a k-12 educator and clinical mental health counselor. She is a half-time instructor and clinical coordinator for Graduate Programs in Counseling. She also practices as an outpatient mental health clinician at a community-based agency serving clients across the lifespan. |

Dr. Sitnick received her Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of California Davis. Her research focuses parenting and its relationship to the development of health-risk behaviors (e.g., obesity risk, substance use, sexual-risk behaviors) in children and adolescents as well as mediating and moderating factors in these relationships. Additionally, she is interested prevention and intervention effectiveness and longitudinal data analyses. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, and cooking.

Daniel Summer

Dr. Dan Summer is an assistant professor of Art Therapy in the department of Psychology and Counseling. Dan completed his master’s degree in creative arts therapy at Hofstra University in 1997. Most recently he earned a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University and is a licensed, board-certified art therapist in New York. His previous clinical experiences include working on an inpatient psychiatric unit with adults living with chronic mental illness and most recently in an outpatient setting providing group and individual therapy to children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances. Dan graduated from Institute for Arts in Psychotherapies with a certificate in the drama therapy method developmental transformations and is taking classes in New Jersey to ultimately become licensed as a professional counselor in New Jersey.
