Welcome Letter
Welcome to Caldwell University, New Jersey’s Domincan University!
Founded in 1939 by the Sisters of St. Dominic, Caldwell has been educating the daughters and sons of New Jersey, the country and across the world for the last 80 years. Inspired and committed to the Dominican tradition, we offer a relevant, real-world education grounded in the Domincan tradition to seek truth and embrace justice.
Whether you are a prospective or current student, a member of our faculty or staff, one of our alumni, or a friend, supporter or local official, I welcome and encourage you to learn more about the unique university you will find here. From one-of-a kind academic programs to top ranked Division II NCAA athletics and a host of service opportunities, Caldwell engages students, faculty, staff and visitors from the moment they step onto our beautiful campus or visit the quaint and welcoming main street in the town of Caldwell, New Jersey, one of the top places to live in New Jersey.
Whether you are seeking a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or one of our hallmark Doctoral programs, you’ll find an array of academic programs known for their engaging faculty and hands-on learning with small classes in varied academic disciplines from Public Health and Nursing to Esports or Sport Management and Business or Communications, Criminal Justice and Computer Science, all the way to our nationally renowned and accredited Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis, to name but a few. These programs are grounded in a liberal arts foundation and out of class experiences which imbues the critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills that serve our students well in our ever-evolving world. Additionally, we strive to maintain an affordable out-of-pocket cost which is as low as many public institutions for families of all income levels.
Our goal is to provide access and welcome to students regardless of their socio-economic or racial and ethnic background from across the state, around the country, and beyond our borders to the greater world, in which we must all coexist. These are just a few of the reasons we have earned a reputation as a perennial, high quality, best value institution according to US News & World Report. We remain inspired by our Dominican heritage and core values of Respect, Integrity, Community and Excellence as we seek to educate students who are committed to the pursuit of truth and contributing to a just society. I can think of no more important values in these times. Come visit us. We will be here in person, on-line, and virtually. Get to know Caldwell University. You’ll be glad you did!
Sincerely,

Matthew Whelan, Ed.D.
