Small university is mighty in hospitality.

That was the sentiment felt by parents and incoming students at Move-In Day for freshmen and new students at Caldwell University.

When students and families pulled up in their cars, Caldwell students, faculty and staff were at the curb ready to help with the heavy lifting.

“It was great having the students help. It speeded up the process,” said Rob Kennedy, the father of freshman Olivia Kennedy from Greene, New York.

Christian Petino, Sr. of Flemington, father of freshman Christian Petino, shared how it was a big step for him to drop  his first son of three off at college. “It was very organized, very smooth.”

Delaney Ridgell, a freshman who will be playing on the softball team, was very excited to arrive.  “I got up at 5:15 and traveled four hours,” said the Frederick, Maryland resident.

Freshman Daniel Keane, of Union, New Jersey, who will be playing baseball, said he was “ready to start.” His mother Julia Keane appreciated that the move-in process was easy and “everyone was so helpful.”

Residence Life staff, orientation leaders and students from clubs and sororities were happy to be back and to help with check-in, unloading and other logistics.  It was “nice to meet the freshmen and give them a warm welcome,” said Rugnie Jean, a sophomore.

Jordyn Whitted, a student who was helping out with her sorority, agreed.  “It is exciting to see everyone come in and be a part of it.”

President Matthew Whelan and his wife Kathy helped with the move-in.  “Two of my favorite days in the university calendar are move-in day and graduation.  This is when I reflect on all of the great work our faculty, staff and students will do for and with each other over the next four years. When I see the result of that growth on graduation day, I beam with pride as they move into the world, confident and ready to tackle society’s challenges and to contribute to a just society,” said Dr. Whelan.   “Move-in is just the start, and Mrs. Whelan and I are proud to be part of it!”
