Jennings Library at Caldwell University will join other libraries, schools, and institutions in celebrating New Jersey Makers Day on Saturday, March 21.

The community is invited to the free event which will feature an array of activities including workshops on 3D printing and scanning and streaming keynote addresses by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and Science Fiction Novelist and Technology Activist Cory Doctorow.

New Jersey Makers Day is designed to be a statewide single-day event that celebrates, promotes, and in many cases, may introduce maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning.

“The maker culture focuses on hands-on learning and experimentation with technology,” explained Heather Cook, Learning Commons Librarian at Caldwell University. ”We are excited to be a participating site for the first ever New Jersey Makers Day and to be able to make this innovative area of learning available to the community.”

Participants at Jennings Library will also have the chance to take part in creative maker projects including recycled magazine crafts and paper airplane construction.   They will be able to get information about the statewide Buildtak 3D Design Challenge, a competition that enables makers to push the limits of creativity as they explore the connections between computer aided design and the physical world.

The Jennings Library celebration is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Community members of all ages are invited to attend

The aim of New Jersey Makers Day is to enhance community engagement and develop connections among New Jersey residents by collaborating with multi-type libraries, museums, small businesses and others to promote and explore new opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation and hands-on learning experiences.
