Caldwell University celebrated its annual Founder’s Day, Wednesday, March 22.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered to remember the legacy of foundress Mother Joseph Dunn, O.P. and the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell.

Stephen Meawad, Ph.D. assistant professor of theology, spoke on “Educating the Whole Person: Dominican Spirituality at Caldwell” including communicating the Dominican pillars of prayer, study, community and service to students in today’s world.

Mass was celebrated by Father James Manos, an alumnus of Caldwell University.

Andrei St. Felix, director of the Educational Opportunity Fund program, gave a reflection. St. Felix said that the members of the campus community are standing on the strength and shoulders of foundress Mother Joseph Dunn and her faith.  “She believed and hoped against all hope that Caldwell University could  be a shining light.  In spite of the rejections, she persevered and she created what she believed God was instructing her to do.  When God gives you and I a dream He also instills in us the ingredients we need to achieve that dream.”

Our connection to God, through the many forms of prayer, said St. Felix “enriches our faith and empowers us to access and bring forth our God-given talents to touch and transform people’s lives.  We need one another to accomplish God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.”

Caldwell Chorale

The Caldwell University chorale, under the direction of Dr. Laura Greenwald, provided the music at Mass including “The Dominican Magnificat” and “Prayer for Ukraine”.

President Matthew Whelan, Ed.D. read blessings for students in the Honors Program and Greek life,  spring athletes, and international students.

Employees were honored for their years of service working at Caldwell University.
