Caldwell University Athletics Director Mark Corino

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Caldwell University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino was selected as the 2017-18 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Athletics Director of the Year as announced by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.

The award was voted on by the league’s 14 athletic directors during the fall season, as Corino will now move on for consideration for the 2017-18 NCAA Division II Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year award, which is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). NACDA will announce the national award winner in the spring, and the honoree will be recognized at the association’s national convention in late June. The NACDA Convention will be held June 28-July 1 at Gaylord National in Washington, D.C.

“I am honored to be selected by my CACC colleagues for this prestigious award,” said Corino. “I want to thank my coaches and staff for all their efforts that made this possible and I share this award with them.”

Corino had a sensational 2016-17 season in guiding the Caldwell University Department of Athletics. Under his guidance, the Cougars placed second in the CACC Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup Standings for women’s all-sports performance. Factored into that second-place finish was both the women’s soccer and softball teams claiming their respective CACC Championships, while both volleyball and women’s basketball advanced to their own conference finals. During this past fall season, Caldwell won the 2017 CACC Volleyball Championship, while also going through the inaugural season of sprint football at the school.

“It’s an honor to name Mark Corino as the CACC Athletics Director of the Year,” Commissioner Mara said. “He has had a legendary career as both an administrator and coach at Caldwell University, and has devoted countless hours to bettering the CACC as a whole. He is very deserving of this honor.”

At the conference level, Corino serves as the Chair of the conference’s Directors Council and represents the group at the league’s Presidents Council meetings. He has assisted in the strategic planning process for the conference and has helped spearhead new efforts that will help enhance the championship experience for the conference’s student-athletes. Corino also represents the conference on the D2ADA, which is comprised of athletic directors throughout the country who work with the NCAA on various administrative issues.

Corino has also served in various roles on a region and national level. He is a current member of the NCAA Compliance Think Tank National Committee since 2016. Corino is a former member of the NCAA All Divisions Men’s Basketball Rules Committee from 2012-16 and was a member of the NCAA DII Men’s Basketball Regional Advisory Committee from 2003-06 and 2008-12. Corino was part of the ECAC Board of Directors from 2007-14, while serving as the ECAC Third Vice-President from 2010-12 and the Second Vice President from 2012-14.

In addition to his lengthy list of administrative duties at Caldwell and the CACC, Corino also doubles as the school’s men’s basketball coach and is one of the all-time winningest college basketball coaches in the state of New Jersey history. He has won 550 games during his prestigious career.

Last season, Corino also did an outstanding job of leading the Cougars men’s basketball program, as the team advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Championship and finished with 17 wins. The school also did a terrific job of hosting the semifinals and finals of both the CACC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.
