Professor of Communications Arts
Professor John Yurko is a member of the Communication Arts Department at Caldwell University, Caldwell, NJ, having joined the college in 1994. Previously Prof. Yurko has taught at Marymount College, Manhattan, Bergen Community College, Paramus, NJ and Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ.
In addition Prof. Yurko is Director of Media Educators Association and host of the Saturday Morning Film Festival in New York City. MEA is a professional organization of over 150 educators from the New York area who meet weekly to screen major Hollywood and foreign films, often with the filmmakers present for discussion. Recent guest include Dev Patel, the star of SLUMDOG MILLIONNAIRE, Bernhardt Schlink, author of the book on which the film THE READER is based, and Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal, stars of CRAZY HEART. Prof. Yurko’s talents however extend into production as well as film appreciation. For years Prof. Yurko was an award-winning director of documentaries, commercials and corporate and industrial productions for Fortune 100 clients. He is the recipient of 6 TELLY Awards, 8 COMMUNICATOR Awards, 2 SUMMIT Awards, 1 VISION Award.
A former writer and critic, Prof. Yurko is the author of “Marquee” a weekly column of film reviews distributed by United Features to newspapers and periodicals in the United States, Canada and abroad. His interviews and feature stories on film, media trends and personalities include one-on-one interviews including Paul Newman, George Segal, Tony Perkins, Peter Falk, Adrienne Barbeau, Michael Caine, and many more.
He is also the author of Video Basics, Prentice Hall Publishing and Editor of Consumer Reports Books: Guide To Movies On Videocassette.
