This workshop will identify and explain various legal issues associated with using social networking and digital communications such as texting and emailing. Suggestions for avoiding legal exposure will also be offered.
After graduating from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Concentration in Public Administration, Dr. Lori Harris-Ransom enrolled in a joint degree law and graduate program at St. Louis University, where she received her Juris Doctor and Master of Arts in Public Administration degrees. She currently teaches full-time at Caldwell College in Caldwell, New Jersey and is a tenured, Full Professor of Business Law.
Dr. Harris-Ransom's research, writing and teaching interests include cyber law related issues such as copyright and e-commerce. She developed and teaches a graduate course in Management Cyber Law Issues. She has received reviewer credit in CyberEthics and CyberLaw Text and Cases because of her extensive review and commentaries on these texts. She has also been interviewed for television newscasts and utilized for her expertise by NJN Public Television for the topics of Consumer Issues When Purchasing on the Internet; Eminent Domain; and Student Liability with Social Networking; by NJ Channel 12 News for Student Liability with Social Networking; and by WFAN Radio for the same topic. She also contributed to the book, Techniques in Teaching Law (Carolina Academic Press) and presented on the issues of Digital Copyright Issues in Teaching; Computer Security; and Legal Liability Issues with using Digital Technologies to student as well as professional audiences. She is a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business for whom she serves as an article reviewer for the Business Law Journal. She is also a member of the Mississippi State Bar.
In addition to her professional and academic endeavors, Dr. Harris-Ransom is married with 3 daughters and is extensively involved in local community volunteer activities. She currently serves on the City of South River, NJ Mayor's Advisory Committee on the Handicapped and Disabled and is active with her church where she Lectors, serves as Eucharistic Minister and teaches in the Religious Education Program. Additionally, she has served in Governance and Committee Chair capacities for her church and participates in numerous volunteer activities at her children's schools including coaching track and serving as a Judge for the New Jersey Division of the National Catholic Forensics League.
