Michael Thomas has never been one to give up on his dreams. “I consider myself a very ambitious person,” the Caldwell College adult student said. “I have never been willing to settle.”

That would explain the remarkable road he has traveled over the past few years. During a successful career in pharmaceutical distribution, Michael discovered his interest in Business and Marketing. He stopped his course of study in Science and earned an Associates Degree in Marketing. Knowing the “expectations of the business world,” he then decided to pursue his dream of earning a Bachelor’s degree.

Michael, now a senior, says that he chose Caldwell College because of the “quality service” he received. Not only did the school accept all of his credits from Gibbs College, but the Caldwell College Continuing Studies staff also made his transition seamless. “The whole process went very smoothly,” he recalls. “From the first day, I was oriented quite easily.”

But there was one more dream Michael couldn’t ignore. “I always respected the military and wanted to realize my dream of joining the Army, just like I did with school.” For many, these two dreams may seem incompatible – but not to Michael. In 2009, he enlisted in the Army and continued as a full-time student at Caldwell College by taking advantage of the external degree program offered through the Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies . By taking his classes externally , he is still on course to graduate with his Bachelor of Science degree in 2010.

With a Business Administration degree, Michael hopes to enter the field of retail marketing in the future, but first, he will serve the remaining five years of his military contract while looking forward to a bright future. With the help of Caldwell College, he has turned his dreams into reality. Michael is already planning for his next goal. He intends to continue at Caldwell and earn his MBA through our Distance Learning MBA program.

Michael began his degree program with on-campus classes. After joiningthe military, Caldwell’s flexible offerings allowed him to continue his studies through the Distance Learning option. Any combination of classes offered, the on-campus day or evening classes, the Accelerated Saturday classes or the Distance Learning classes can be combined throughout a student’s course of study, even in the same semester.
