What makes Caldwell College unique or special?
Caldwell College is really a community that is so special because of its family atmosphere. Faculty and students care about each other, and there is mutual respect among the diverse student population.
What are your future career goals and how has Caldwell College prepared you for them?
Once I earn my Master’s degree from Rutgers University next May (as part of the 5-year combined program with Caldwell), I’d like to have a career working on behalf of disadvantaged people. Ultimately, I’d like to start a non-profit organization for women and children, or possibly work for the U.N.
The faculty in the Sociology Department were amazing. They spent so much time with me to figure out what I wanted to do. The combined program with Rutgers is allowing me to combine my senior year and first year of graduate school. I highly recommend the program.
What lessons have you learned at Caldwell College?
I have learned to be open to trying new things with an open mind. I have also learned never to underestimate myself or others.
What was your biggest achievement at Caldwell College?
Spending so much time in Campus Ministry and helping others is what I’m most happy about. I am also proud of being accepted into the Sociology Honor Society.
What activities were you involved in at Caldwell College?
I was president of the Students for Life of America chapter on campus and served on the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Executive Board at the college. I also participated in many Campus Ministry events, such as soup kitchen outreach, midnight runs, and tutoring. I went on several Alternative Spring & Winter break trips to help people in need in Camden, NJ and West Virginia.
Honors
Lia received the Trustee Recognition Award which is given to a member of the senior class who has developed his/her own giftedness in a singular way during the time at Caldwell College, who has shared those gifts generously on behalf of others, and who gives evidence of the potential to communicate Caldwell’s Christian values to others as the future unfolds. She also received the Kappa Gamma Pi St. Catherine of Alexandria medal and Departmental Honors in Sociology.
