Asia Bash : Caldwell College: A Close-Knit Community

Junior year brought on several changes for Asia Bash. Among those changes, she added a minor to her course of study and she took on a new leadership role on campus. But through everything, she said one thing remained the same: the close-knit community at Caldwell College. No matter where she lives or what she's involved in, she always enjoys the very social and comfortable atmosphere on campus. "As a freshman, I was afraid of not knowing anyone, but I was amazed at how easy it is to meet people here," she said.

Her first impression of Caldwell College was, in fact, her peers. “I said, ‘Wow, how diverse.’” Asia is sharing with prospective students and incoming freshman how rewarding her experiences on campus have been. She became an orientation leader so that others who are exploring the College can “get to experience it with a natural student.” And Asia should know how important that is. It was a close family friend and Caldwell College alumnus who introduced her to the College and opened her eyes to its many benefits.

Becoming an orientation leader is just one way Asia wants to live out her passion for helping others. She is studying Psychology in hopes of becoming a counselor and “helping people overcome their issues, anxieties, and problems.” She has just taken on a Minor in Business Administration to help her pursue her dream of opening her own practice someday.

Asia’s academic experiences at Caldwell College have been just as rewarding as the social ones. In the Psychology department, she has found “wonderful, helpful advisors and well-rounded, smart professors.” She makes sure she takes advantage of the faculty’s first-hand knowledge of the psychology field and the small class sizes that allow her to develop good relationships with her professors.

But it is the balance between academic and social life that Asia appreciates the most about the supportive environment at Caldwell College. As an incoming freshman, “I didn’t know how to get all my schoolwork done and still find time to have fun.” Through faculty, friends, and the activities she has been involved in, including Cheerleading and Student Government, she has now discovered how to do both.

My favorite thing to do at Caldwell College… My favorite thing to do at Caldwell College is sit in the cafeteria with all of my friends and peers and have conversations about whatever comes to mind. I love to see everyone talking and smiling. Being in the cafeteria gives everyone a chance to speak to each other. It really gives me that sense of togetherness and community.

The most fun I ever had at Caldwell College
The most fun I ever had at Caldwell College was when my friends and I decided to have movie nights in Dominican Hall’s 1st floor lounge. We spent many nights hanging out to relieve stress from class, mid-terms, and papers. It was our way of balancing academics and our social life. We also did other things like play Nintendo Wii and go to other social activities on campus like bingo night or battle of the sexes.
