Student Outreach System

The Student Outreach System is a retention strategy designed to identify freshmen who are having difficulties in a given course. Professors identify students who are then contacted by their advisor so that the student can take steps, such as tutoring offered at no fee by the Academic Support Center, to improve their performance in the class. Students may be identified for a variety of reasons, including absences, lateness or the quality of their work.

The goal of the SOS program is not to penalize students, but rather to address academic concerns early on in the semester so that a student can utilize interventions to successfully complete the course. If students receive an SOS, they are encouraged to speak to their instructor.
