In order to graduate from Caldwell University, students must:
1. Complete a minimum of 120 Credits
Some majors require more than the minimum number of credits (120) towards their graduation requirements. Students should refer to their major in the College Catalog to understand the specific requirements.
Traditional Undergraduates generally take 15 credits a semester for eight semesters in order to meet this requirement. Some Traditional Undergraduates may take up to 18 credits in a semester without an additional tuition fee, however all students must take a minimum of 12 credits a semester to be considered a full-time student. Some exceptional students, in consultation with their Academic Advisor, may request to take a course overload and pay an additional fee. All students must take their final 30 credits at Caldwell University.
The number of courses required for each major varies. Please refer to the College Catalog to determine how many credits your intended major requires and how that may increase the overall number of credits you need to graduate.
2. Complete at least one Major (Education major require two Majors)
While students may declare an additional major or minor, Caldwell students only have to complete one major. Students should officially declare their major no later than the end of their fourth semester by submitting their signed major declaration form to the Registrar’s office. Transfer students should officially declare once they reach 60 total credits and after they have completed one semester at Caldwell. A minimum grade of a C in each course is required in a student’s major and half the total number of credits required for a major must be completed at Caldwell.
3. Complete the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum
The Foundational Core (36-40 credits) introduces students to the breadth of disciplines in the Liberal Arts tradition while developing the fundamental skills of writing, critical thinking, and information literacy.
The Enriched Core (9 credits) reinforces the central elements of the Catholic and Dominican identity of the college while providing students the flexibility to pursue topics of interest.
Courses required for the Core may vary depending on a student’s major. Please refer to the College Catalog to determine which courses you must take to complete both your major and core.
4. Have a Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.0
Only classes taken at Caldwell University will count towards a student’s cumulative GPA. Any classes taken outside of Caldwell may be approved for credit towards the minimum 120 required graduation credits and/or towards any major/minor or core requirements with a minimum grade of a C, but will not be included in a student’s GPA.
5. Have a Minimum Major GPA of 2.0 (May vary based on major)
A minimum grade of a C in each course is required in a student’s major. However, all attempted courses taken in the student’s major department may be calculated into the student’s minimum major GPA requirement.
