Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) involves awarding credit for those skills and areas of knowledge gained through work experience, in-service workshops, training programs, independent research, community service, travel, etc.
A degree student may earn up to 18 PLA credits and these may be applied to the liberal arts core and elective requirements; only 6 credits may be applied to the major. Students pursuing School Nurse Certification are advised to contact their Academic Advisor in the Center for Student Success regarding the application of PLA credits in the School Nurse Program.
Students who are interested in learning more about how they may earn PLA credits should attend the appropriate PLA workshop offered at the beginning of each semester as published in the semester Academic Course Offerings booklet. Degree students are eligible to attend the PLA workshop after earning 12 or more credits at Caldwell University. School Nurses are eligible to attend the School Nurse Certification PLA workshop after earning 9 credits at Caldwell University. Registration for all PLA workshops should accompany your semester registration on the registration form.
