Get Involved
Getting involved with Residence Life gives you a better overall experience in the residence halls, and there are plenty of ways to get involved.
Have you always envisioned yourself writing the next big news story? Or have you always wanted to try? Now you can. The Residence Life Office produces the Write-Up. The Write-Up is a newsletter that the Residence Life Office creates several times a year with topics that you are interested in, everything from living on campus for the first time, to how to be safe and have fun during spring break. We also remind you of all the great events that are happening on campus.
Maybe you would like to help resident students have a voice, be heard, and help with student governance. The Residence Council is a great way to do just that. You will be able to host different social and educational programs for the student body and allow commuters an opportunity to also participate in the Residence Life experience.
Or you may like to have a more significant impact on the Residence Life and its resident, forging a community. Samaj Neupane explains it best: “Community can be bonded tight only by realizing the fragility of each piece and making sure each feel secure under the bigger knots of common motives and communal necessities.” Resident Assistants do just that. They form a community for the resident students. Tenzing Khachada, an RA for the 2009-2010 year describes it as “The Resident Assistant is still one of the most visible personnel on campus. Students, even commuters, don’t know who the president of the SGA is, but they do know us as RAs. This is only because we interact with the students and get to know them.”
