It's not all about the beach. And it's not all about the sun and fun.

Several Caldwell College students will tell you that. They invested time and sacrificed income this summer to work at internships, co-ops and preparation programs for their futures.

Meghan Dunn, '10, a Communications and Journalism Major, interned in news at CNN International in New York City. She spent time working in the cable network's United Nations Division.

Jonathan Cabral, '10, a Communication Arts major, interned at WWOR-TV MY 9 News. He had the opportunity to get real hands-on experience by assisting on the assignment desk, operating the teleprompter, attending press conferences, gathering research, field producing stories and going out on shoots with reporters. One of his most interesting experiences came when he had the opportunity to interview Governor Corzine on the New Jersey Corruption scandals. "Interning in WWOR-TV's MY9 News department has been an exciting and career changing experience. I was able to apply knowledge learned in Caldwell's Communication Arts program to a real-world setting; exploring a wide variety of career paths within news. It was far from being labeled as a 'coffee internship'", he said.

Kyrie Timbrook '10, also a Communication Arts major, interned at Comcast Cable in San Jose, CA. She assisted in the production of public affairs interviews and events. Kryie operated camera in-studio for issue-oriented interviews with community leaders. Her position took her to several different television studios in the San Francisco Bay Area and she was involved assisting in the set-up and breakdown of the coverage for the minor league baseball team the San Jose Giants and the coverage of a run to benefit a non-profit organization.

Caldwell College Bryan Broderick '11 worked hard to prepare for medical school by taking part in the Northeast Regional Alliance (NERA) MedPrep program, a three-year summer program designed to prepare students in New Jersey and New York for success on the MCAT, admission to medical school, and medical school itself. Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, MedPrep is a partnership between four distinguished medical schools in the NJ-NY area, including the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) at UMDNJ in Newark, NJ.

Kyle Plaugic '10 interned with Kearney, New Jersey Business Administrator Joe D'Arco. This was Plaugic's second summer in Kearney. In 2008, he cataloged all the veterans from Kearny from WWI, WWII, Korean, and Vietnam. This summer he did more work on the same project gathering background information on the names, ranks, military service and status on the men and women. This will be used in the future to honor those men and women.

Bruno Silva '10, a Business Marketing Major, worked in a co-op internship at CDS Xerox where he supported marketing production and prepared materials for marketing campaigns. He connected with the company at the Caldwell College Career and Internship Fair in the spring.

Jan Marco Jiras, an MBA student, interned with the New York Red Bulls professional soccer team. He contributed to the planning and execution of marketing initiatives, especially mobile marketing, and assisted in the planning and preparation for game day events and special events. He worked long hours and off hours, but he says it was all worth it.

Yolanda Sendon is an adult undergraduate student majoring in Sociology. She interned with the Parsippany Police Department Juvenile Accountability Program where she worked as a camp counselor and helped with logistics before the camp started, set-up field trips, and assisted with fundraising efforts.

Other students who had valuable internships included: Jon Irwin, a junior Criminal Justice major, who interned with the town of Carmel, New York; Laura DeVico, a Social Studies major and Social Studies minor, who interned with NJ DYFS (NJ's Division of Youth and Family Services), and Eva Bobowicz a Criminal Justice major and recent graduate, who interned at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel.
