Caldwell, NJ - Caldwell College students have recently been recipients of scholarships in nursing, health care, and science.
Johnson and Johnson presented Discover Nursing Scholarships to nursing students Corinne Despotovich and Michele Sciscione. The scholarship is part of Johnson and Johnson’s long-standing commitment to enhance the nursing profession by helping students prepare for nursing careers.
Marycarol Rossignol, PhD, RN, CNL, director of the Nursing Program at Caldwell, says the department is delighted that Despotovich and Sciscione were awarded this impressive scholarship. “It is an exciting time to be a nurse and BSN-prepared nurses are in demand.”
Despotovich, a junior from Pequannock, NJ and Sciscione, a sophomore from Rockaway, NJ are excited about Caldwell’s nursing program and their futures in the field. It is “pretty awesome,” said Despotovich, who is currently enjoying working with the patients in the hospital setting.
Sciscione said it was terrific to attend the Independent College Fund of NJ (ICFNJ) annual dinner and have the chance to meet other students from different colleges. Johnson and Johnson was recognized at this year’s annual dinner as one of nine corporations which had achieved a milestone in support of students and independent colleges in New Jersey.
Johnson and Johnson also presented Pre-Professional Health Care Scholarships to students Kara Jorgensen, a junior with a double major in biology and English, and Monique Pineros, a senior with a biology major. Scholarship recipients have demonstrated an interest in pursuing careers in the healthcare profession.
In addition, the Merck Undergraduate Science Endeavors (MUSE) Grant was awarded to Trang Phung, a senior chemistry major, for Independent Science Research for 2011-2012. She previously received the scholarship in 2010-2011. The MUSE Program promotes research by undergraduate students with tuition assistance, research funding and funds for professional development.
Each of these awards was made possible through the Independent College Fund of New Jersey.
