Caldwell College Offers New Director of Counseling Services Post-Master’s program.

Caldwell College is offering a new Director of School Counseling Services Post-Master’s program, recently approved by the New Jersey Department of Education.

The 12-credit graduate program, which will begin in spring 2007, will prepare a successful counselor to become a Director or Supervisor of School Counseling in Grades K-12. The offering will include courses in Educational Law & Regulations; Foundations of Administration and Curriculum Supervision Grades K-12; Principles of Counselor Supervision; and Curriculum Leadership.

The program is aimed at those who have the School Counselor credential and have already competed three years of successful experience as a school counselor in grades preschool through 12.

Dr. Stacey Solomon, Coordinator of school counseling programs at Caldwell College said, “As our society continues to recognize the need for counseling professionals in school settings, it is evident that those counseling programs require committed and competent leadership.” She said, “Those committed leaders, who are knowledgeable in many areas of the school system, will be in a position to promote student success by addressing academic challenges at all grade levels, while at the same time being in tune with a student’s emotional growth.”

Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to submit all documentation through the College’s Office of Certification and Field Experience to apply for the NJ credential of Director of Student Counseling Services. The College already offers two programs for the initial school counseling credential, a post-master’s certificate program and a master’s in counseling psychology with a school counseling specialization.
