Caldwell College Offers New Area of Specialization for Licensed Professional Counselor Credential

Alumni Needed for Accreditation Self-Study

The Caldwell College Psychology Department has added to its master’s Specialization in Mental Heath Counseling to give students the opportunity to graduate with the educational credits needed for the credential, New Jersey Professional Counselor (LPC).

The Department is seeking alumna/us of the Master’s or Post Master’s Counseling Psychology graduate program to assist with a short survey as part of an accreditation self study. If you are an alumna/us of the program, please send an email to cpsyalum@caldwell.edu. with your updated contact information (name, address, phone, email).

The 60-credit program is structured in alignment with the standards of the Council of the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

“We are very proud of this new area of specialization, enabling us to educate students for entrance into a healing profession so needed in today’s society,” said Sister Catherine Waters, O.P., Ph.D., coordinator of Graduate programs in Counseling Psychology. “Graduates will be prepared to work as Mental Health Counselors in community agencies, hospitals, and other mental health facilities. When they achieve the necessary supervision hours, they will also be able to establish private practice as LPCs.”

In addition, individuals who have completed a Master’s degree in counseling can be admitted to
Caldwell’s Post-Master’s Licensing Program. An Advisor will assist these students to identify the courses they need to become eligible for the LPC

The Caldwell College MA Program in Counseling Psychology began in 1997. The program combines spirituality with conventional practice to prepare counselors for professional work in the field.
