Dr. Kandel’s Paper Places Among Top Ten For Strategic Management Society Award
Associate Professor of Business and Ruane–Toohey Chair in Economics Dr. Anatoly Kandel’s paper Tango of Strategy and Intuition Under Uncertainty placed among the top ten in the running for the Strategic Management Society’s (SMS) Best Conference Paper Prize. This is a great honor especially since there were some 800 papers submitted for consideration.
Writers were recognized at a luncheon at the SMS 27th Annual International Conference Tuesday October 16, 2007 in San Diego.
The topic of Dr. Kandel's paper is Tango Of Strategy And Intuition Under Uncertainty. The paper focuses on the business reality that it is very difficult to predict the success or failure of long-term strategy decisions taken by top executives. Successful executives often rely on their tacit knowledge and an intuitive process to develop successful strategies. Dr. Kandel's paper explores the mental processes employed by CEOs using AT&T, IBM and Intel as case studies.
Dr. Kandel gave a presentation entitled Flexibility and Exploration at the SMS Conference on Tuesday, October 15.
