Rebeca Munoz Rebeca Muñoz: Caldwell College has the personal touch

Of all the things Rebeca Muñoz learned at Caldwell College, she appreciates the interpersonal lessons the most. From professors who "see you as an actual person" and treat you with "dignity and worth" to Campus Ministry opportunities to give back to the community, she says that her time at Caldwell College taught her so much about how to relate to others and "love people where they're at."

During her four years at the College, Rebeca volunteered at soup kitchens, raised money for charity through Kappa Delta Epsilon, an Honor Society for Education majors, and participated in many Students for Life Club activities, such as diaper drives, movie nights, pro-life awareness events on campus, rosaries for life, and the March for Life in Washington D.C. Rebeca also took part in the alternative Spring Break trip to eastern Kentucky and Appalachia in 2008. During that adventure, she worked alongside other college students to replace siding, repair roofs, and perform other household repairs for families in need.

A "friendly atmosphere" and a community of "people who want to give back" were the aspects of Caldwell College that first inspired Rebeca to get involved and give more of herself to others. Within this environment of small class sizes, personable faculty and staff, and emphasis on ministry, she was able to live out her passion for service. Everyone from her peers to the President of the College taught her the value of a personal touch. "Sister Patrice was a wonderful President who really cared about the students and was very approachable," Muñoz said.

Now a 2009 summa cum laude graduate with a B.A. degree and double major in Special Education and Psychology, Rebeca wants to take what she has learned - in and out of the classroom - to those who need it most. "Hopefully I can become a missionary in a third world country someday and teach those who haven't had the opportunity to get an education." And through her experiences at Caldwell College, she is confident that no matter how much she gives of herself, she will always gain more in return.
