CELEBRATE A LEGACY
Board of Trustees to Honor College President Sister Patrice Werner

The Caldwell College Board of Trustees will honor College President Sister Patrice Werner, O.P., Ph.D. at the 34th Annual Scholarship Gala on Friday May 1, 2009.     

Celebrating a Legacy will recognize Sister Patrice’s 15 years as president and 36 years of dedicated service to the College.   Sister Patrice will be retiring June 30, 2009.

“This is going to be a wonderful evening to honor Sister Patrice and all she has achieved for Caldwell College.  We certainly have a great legacy to celebrate.  Besides recognizing her list of accomplishments, which are many, we are also showing her our gratitude for the many lives she has touched—from students, to faculty, to staff, to alumni, to benefactors and to those in the community,” said Chair of the Board of Trustees and West Caldwell resident Dr. Alexander Giaquinto.
 
During her 36-year tenure at Caldwell, Sister Patrice has held a number of positions including faculty member, Director of Continuing Education, Chair of the Foreign Languages Department, Prefect in the residence hall and Academic Dean.
 
The Gala will be held at the Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey. The gala black-tie evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner. The College’s Music Department will be providing the entertainment for the evening.  Tickets are $300.00 per person, a portion of which is tax-deductible.  Tables and sponsorship opportunities are also available.

During her tenure as President, Sister Patrice has overseen great growth and expansion in all areas of campus life while promoting the mission of the Catholic Dominican College.  Those accomplishments include graduate program growth, substantial enrollment increases and facility and technology expansion. 

Under Sister’s leadership, the College became a fully accredited member of the NCAA Division II and today the Athletics Department has eleven varsity programs and many scholar-athletes. She has overseen the addition of a number of  facilities including: The George R. Newman Recreation and Athletic Center, the 60,000 square-foot center that  features a 1,600 seat basketball arena; a new entrance to campus directly from Bloomfield Avenue; a new state of the art apartment style residence hall—Dominican Hall; a new Academic Building and completely renovated Science labs. Among the many graduate programs that have been added during Sister Patrice’s time, is the Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a highly effective treatment for Autism. The popular program was the first master’s in ABA in the state of New Jersey. 

Sister Patrice has been involved in higher education issues on the state and national level having served on boards for numerous organizations including: The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey (AICUNJ), The Independent College Fund of New Jersey (ICFNJ), The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), and Providence College.
