Lecture on Catholic Social Teaching and the Economic Crisis to be presented by Caldwell College and CAPP
Charles M.A. Clark, senior fellow at the Vincentian Center for Church and Society and professor of economics at St John’s University, New York will present on “Catholic Social Teaching and the Economic Crisis” on February 23, 2012. The program is sponsored Caldwell College and the Newark Archdiocese chapter of the pontifical organization Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP).
Caldwell, NJ - Caldwell College and the Newark Archdiocese chapter of the pontifical organization Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) will host a program on “Catholic Social Teaching and the Economic Crisis” on February 23, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Alumni Theatre. Admission is free.
The presenter will be Charles M.A. Clark, senior fellow at the Vincentian Center for Church and Society and professor of economics at St John’s University, New York.
Caldwell College Associate Dean of the Business Division Bernard O’Rourke will moderate the program.
The panelists will be: Anatoly Kandel, Ph.D., professor of business and the Ruane-Toohey Chair in economics at Caldwell College; Edward R. Collins, founding partner of Artisan Wealth Management, LLC and Caldwell College trustee; Domenic Maffei, Ph.D., professor of political science and chair of the political science department at Caldwell College.

Dr. Clark is the co-author (with Sr. Helen Alford, O.P.) of Rich and Poor: Rebalancing the Economy (London: Catholic Truth Society, 2010). He has written or edited nine books and over 100 other professional publications mainly in the fields of Catholic social thought; poverty and income inequality; and the history of economic thought. Dr. Clark has been Visiting Professor of Economics at University College Cork, Ireland and at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome. He was recently a Delegate for the Holy See Mission to the United Nations High Level Conference on the Financial Crisis and is an advisor to the Holy See’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. He earned a B.A. from Fordham University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research.
Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) is a lay-led, pontifical organization and vehicle for lay education and evangelization of Catholic social doctrine, as contained in the encyclical Centesimus Annus. The aim of CAPP is the implementation of Catholic Social Teaching through lay Catholic business, academic and professional leaders. The organization continues Pope Benedict XVI’s call for a "New Evangelization." Pope John Paul II established CAPP in 1993.
