Caldwell University is the first and only college or university in New Jersey to offer graduate level art therapy training.

In this video, faculty, students and alumni share the strengths of the program.

The college offers:

  • Undergraduate double major in art and psychology with art therapy concentration
  • Master’s in Counseling with Mental Health Counseling/Art Therapy Specialization. The program is approved by the American Art Therapy Association and the New Jersey Professional Counselor Examiners Committee.
  • Post-Graduate Master’s in Art Therapy

Art Therapy Programs Coordinator, Marie Wilson PhD, ATR-BC, ATCS, ACS, LPC talks about  how graduates of the master’s program are well-equipped for the marketplace and can apply for a variety of jobs in mental health, medical or school settings. She describes how the Caldwell University master’s in counseling uniquely blends the practice of art therapy within the mental health counseling framework and how art therapy students took part in a pilot program to help families affected by Superstorm Sandy.  Students and alumni talk about their appreciation for the faculty, their academic and fieldwork experiences and the campus art therapy gallery.  

In addition to approval by the American Art Therapy Association and the New Jersey Professional Counselor Examiners Committee, the master’s in counseling with mental health counseling/art therapy specialization is seeking accreditation with the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP ).
