Music Club MENC Hosts Other Colleges For Music Seminar

Students in Caldwell College's Music club, MENC were very excited that over 30 students from different colleges came out to a recent presentation they put together on Caldwell's campus on the Orff teaching methods. Tom Charsky, an adjunct at Caldwell College and at William Paterson, taught the group of students from Caldwell, Montclair State University and William Paterson University about the Orff music education approach. MENC President Melissa Kay and Treasurer Susan Harris, who were two of the event planners, said it was terrific to be able to connect with students from other chapters of MENC and other future music educators. Plus, it was a whole lot of fun because Charsky didn't just lecture. "He had us up and moving and experimenting with percussion," said Harris, who is a music education major. Kay, also a music education major, said it was beneficial to network with the students because as a result, Caldwell students will be invited to MENC events at the other colleges.

On February 20 and February 21, five Caldwell College students attended the New Jersey Music Educators conference in New Brunswick.
