CELEBRATING A LEGACY AT SCHOLARSHIP GALA
Building and Scholarship Named in Sister Patrice's Honor
Caldwell College President Sister Patrice Werner was honored at the College's 34th Annual Scholarship Gala on Friday May 1. Some 400 benefactors, trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, students, community leaders and Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell came out to Celebrate a Legacy and pay tribute to Sister for her 15 years as the College President and her 36 years at Caldwell College. Sister is retiring June 30, 2009.
Alexander Giaquinto, Ph.D., Chair of the Caldwell College Board of Trustees announced that the current Academic Building would now be called Werner Hall in tribute to Sister Patrice.
Caldwell College English Professor Trish Verrone, Ph.D. announced that the college has established the Sister Patrice Werner Scholarship Fund for students with the highest academic and personal achievement. The fund will honor Sister Patrice’s passion for Catholic education in the Dominican Tradition and the example she set for all in the Caldwell College community.
Sister Kathleen Tuite, O.P., Assistant to the President for Mission and Ministry, presented the Apostolic Blessing to Sister Patrice from Pope Benedict XVI. She read the inscription which said, "The Holy Father Benedict XVI cordially imparts the requested Apostolic Blessing to Sister Patrice Werner, O.P., Ph.D. on the occasion of her retirement from Caldwell College and through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, invokes an abundance of divine graces."
Caldwell College alumni president Tim Nellegar '00 presented Sister Patrice with a Memory Book with special photos and messages from people whose lives have been touched by Sister Patrice and her work.
Giaquinto also announced that the Board of Trustees had named Sister Patrice a President Emerita.
