Caldwell College to Celebrate Alumni Professional Excellence
at Veritas Award Dinner

009 Awardees Span Three Generations

Caldwell College will honor three alumni from different generations of College history with the College’s Veritas Award for professional excellence. Sister Mary Amelia Cetera, O.P. ’54, Dr. Patrick Lamy ’91 and Irene Sinteff ’73, will receive the awards at the 24th Veritas Awards Dinner on Friday March 27 at 6 p.m. at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey.  The Veritas Award is the highest honor the College bestows on its alumnai/alumni for their professional excellence in diverse fields.

Excellence In Education Leadership

Sister Amelia Cetera, O.P. will receive an award for Excellence in Education Leadership for the innovative and practical methods she gave to hundreds of education majors that enabled them to be effective teachers throughout their careers.
 Sister Mary Amelia Cetera, O.P.’54 began her career at Caldwell in 1959 and, after devoting over 50 years to educating and supervising prospective teachers, continues, even in retirement, to interview and advise prospective majors.

Sister Amelia came to Caldwell as Director and instructor of the College Reading Center before serving as Chairperson of the Education Department for nine years. She designed the first B.A. in Education, then a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. She developed the internship program in collaboration with the Caldwell/West Caldwell Public Schools and has supervised student interns and teachers for thirty years. Non-education majors will remember Sister Amelia as a Dean of Residence, a Class Moderator or Sodality Moderator and she continues today to screen applicants to the Education program.

Excellence in Student Affairs in Higher Education

Patrick Lamy, Ph.D. ’91 will receive an award for Excellence in Student Affairs in Higher Educationfor the leadership, training and counseling he has provided to students and student affairs professionals over seventeen years. Patrick is Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students at Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, NJ where he provides leadership, strategic planning and development for all areas of student services. He had previously spent years directing and coordinating departments including Residence Life, Affirmative Action/Equal Employment, Education Opportunity Fund (EOF) both at Bloomfield and Caldwell Colleges.

Excellence In Human Resources

Irene Sinteff ’73 of Boston, Massachusetts will receive an award for Excellence in Human Resourcesfor the creative use of her wide array of human resource skills, including recruiting, career planning, line management, training and adult education
Irene has spent a professional career as trainer, educator and career consultant in both corporate and nonprofit environments while continuing her Peace Corps activities as a United States host family.  Her portfolio career spans the manufacturing, education, medical and biotech industries. She currently provides recruiting and training services to Lee Hecht Harrison and Tandem-Training and manages the successful Amgen Career Center for LHH, for which she received the President’s Award in 2008. Irene has taught at area colleges and currently teaches management at Curry College.

After serving as a Business Educator Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Russia, Irene continues activities to share her experience in the U.S. to promote peace.
