Business Professor Romano Presents on Critical Thinking in Management

Business Division Professor Anthony Romano gave a presentation on the subject of a "Best Practice-Based Model of Critical Thinking in Management" on Nov. 7. The presentation was given at the One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education International Conference and Forum, New York 2009. The Institute brings subject matter experts in education together to exchange ideas on research, best practices, developments, and visions in the field of ethics and education. The conference was held at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York and included presenters from various colleges and universities. Romano’s presentation complemented the conference topic category of business education and argued that management education needs a model of critical thinking that is experiential and grounded in the practice of management.

Romano provided an understanding of the differences between generic and context-specific critical thinking, provided indicators of best practices of critical thinking in management, and offered recommendations to enhance the learning of practice-based critical thinking. The presentation described research that was conducted to identify elements of a best practice-based model of critical thinking in management. The objective of the study was to address the problem that generic models of critical thinking are not adequate in describing critical thinking in context specific areas, such as management.
