Caldwell College Students Joined Other New Jersey Colleges In Promoting Anti-Tobacco Message

Students in Caldwell College's anti-tobacco club REBEL U (Reaching Everyone by Exposing Lies) demonstrated against tobacco related deaths by displaying 1200 pinwheels on campus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday April 1, 2, 3. The Caldwell club joined 11 other New Jersey college campuses to speak out against tobacco companies and to raise awareness about tobacco related deaths. "The 1200 pinwheels, represented the number of Americans who die each day from tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, " said Caldwell College junior Katrina Procaccini, president of the Caldwell's REBEL U club.

"As an active member of REBEL U and a child of two smoking parents, I feel strongly about the message this project brought to everyone who took time out of their day to stop by and see for themselves how grave a problem smoking is," Procaccini said. "I think that Project 1200 is an important visual for college students to see. We wanted to share with our community the gravity of this situation, and take a stand for change. Hopefully, this wasn't seen as a so-called bashing of smokers, but rather a wake-up call."
