Music Student Takes to the Stage at Carnegie Hall

Music student Conner Brown performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, December 1.

Conner, a junior, won the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall after competing in the Fourth Russian Music Festival sponsored by the Talented Young Musicians Association in New Jersey on November 4th. She performed in the Carnegie Hall recital with other festival winners.

"Playing at Weill Recital Hall was amazing. Being able to perform in a professional atmosphere with so many talented young people is the highlight of my semester," Conner said. "I plan on competing again next year."

Conner is the piano student of Caldwell College Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Nan Childress Orchard. "Conner's performance at Weill Recital Hall was the culmination of months of practice. She shared the stage with many talented students. Her playing was polished and exciting," Dr. Childress Orchard said.

Conner started playing piano at age seven, but has only had four years of formal lessons. She had her first recital two months after she started lessons at her church. "When I was in the 6th grade, I started to play the services in church until I left for college two years ago," Conner said.

Conner's short term goals include performing in her junior recital which will be in February, and then another piano audition in May. "As soon as my junior recital is over, I will be working on the material for my senior recital. My longer term goals include a master's in performance or something like that, and possibly a doctorate in performance. I don't know exactly what I will be doing then, but I trust the Lord to keep guiding me, so I'm not worried about that at all," Conner said.
