The New York City Metro Area offers many opportunities to enjoy cultural, athletic and retail experiences at your own expense, and our campus is close to the public transportation to get there. Following is information on some popular activities and the approximate cost to you. This information is accurate as of November, 2007, but it may change by July.

  • The bus fare from Caldwell College to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC is about $7.00 one way.
  • Food prices off-campus and in NYC vary and are your responsibility.
  • Each NYC subway ride is about $2. If you plan to visit NYC often, you can buy a Metro Card in different amounts.
  • Baseball game tickets start at about $25, Stadium food is about $15. A train goes to the stadium from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art Entrance is free.
  • Museum of Modern Art Entrance is free.
  • American Museum of Natural History Entrance is free.
  • An additional trip on your own to Woodbury Commons is about $40 round-trip from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
  • Broadway Show tickets can sometimes be purchased in the morning for that evening. The cost is usually about $60 per seat, and the play selection varies.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • You should plan to bring an additional $500US to spend on food and transportation when you leave campus on your own and for souvenirs.
  • It is recommended that you bring lightweight washable clothing because New Jersey can be very humid in July.
  • Bed linens and towels will be delivered at the beginning of the program and will be picked up at the end. You can wash them whenever you want in the new laundry facilities. Washer and dryer loads cost $1.15 each.
  • We recommend that you bring two extra bath towels.
  • You must have adequate health insurance coverage. If you don’t, you’ll have to pay for medical treatment at the time it’s given, and it’s very expensive.
  • Minor medical problems can be handled by a local pharmacy or physician. Only true medical emergencies require a trip to a hospital. Please bring any medicines you regularly use.
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption are not permitted in the residence hall or on College-sponsored trips.
  • One weekly local shopping trip and other on-campus activities will be planned during the week. Otherwise, you are free to use weekday evenings to study and complete assignments or to go off campus on your own.
  • You can use your laptop on campus once it has been checked by our IT Staff.

This is an academic program, and you will be expected to satisfy the course requirements in order to earn six college credits.

THE RESIDENCE HALL WILL CLOSE FOR MAINTENANCE on Saturday, August 2 at 12 Noon. No meals will be available after that time. Please make your travel plans accordingly.
