  • Encyclopedia of Psychology Ref 150.3 E56 2000
    Provides a valuable overview of the topic of Art Therapy and definitions of terms.
  • Grove Dictionary of Art Ref 703 D55
    A thirty four-volume set which covers the arts worldwide. Available online for use in the library only.
  • Handbook of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Ref 618.9289 H23 1997
    Definition and assessment of art psychotherapy found in Volume 6 Basic Psychiatric Science and Treatment.

LOCATING PERIODICAL ARTICLES USING DATABASES

Suggested databases for topics in Art Therapy include:

Academic Search Premier - provides full-text for nearly 3,180 scholarly publications covering academic areas of study including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.

Art Abstracts - a comprehensive database to the world of arts from architecture to video. Contains citations and abstracts for over 400 of the leading art publications.

CINAHL - an index to the literature in the fields of nursing and allied health, including biomedical and consumer health. Contains some full-text articles.

ERIC - a database from the Educational Resources Information Center. Consists of the Resources in Education (RIE) file of document citations and the Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) file of journal article citations from over 980 professional journals. Includes abstracts for all citations.

Health Reference Center - includes articles on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health and safety, alcohol and drug abuse, HMOs, prescription drugs, etc. Contains the full-text for some of the articles.

Omni Full-Text - a cross-discipline database which combines and searches Education Abstracts, General Science Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts, Readers Guide to Periodical Literature, Business Abstracts, and Social Science Abstracts. Contains the full-text for some the articles.

PsycINFO - covers psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines. Contains citations and abstracts only for journal articles, chapters, books, dissertations, and reports.
