

Borrowing privileges are available to Caldwell College students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni.
ID Cards
A current Caldwell College library card must be presented for all borrowing
transactions. Registration for borrowing privileges may be made at the
circulation desk of the Jennings Library. All Caldwell College ID cards
must be updated every semester a student is currently registered at
the College. Failure to abide by Library and College policies may result
in the loss of borrowing privileges.
Confidentiality
Under New Jersey state law, library patron circulation and registration
records are confidential.
Loan periods may vary according to type of material and borrower status.
Students
Four week loan period, but are always due at the end of the semester.
There is a ten book maximum with one renewal. Books may be renewed in
person at the circulation desk, by calling 973-618-3337, or on line
in CALCAT under My Account. Journals and reference books do not circulate.
Audio-visual materials may be viewed in the Media Center or may be checked
out overnight.
Staff
Six week loan period. Not subject to fines. There is a ten book maximum.
Books may be recalled if requested by another user. Journals and reference
books do not circulate. Audio-visual materials may be viewed in the
Media Center or may be borrowed for two weeks.
Faculty
Books circulate for one semester, but are always due by the end of each
semester. Not subject to fines. No max. Journals and reference books
do not circulate. Audio-visual materials may be borrowed for two weeks.
Alumni
Four week loan period, three book maximum, no renewals. Journals and
reference books do not circulate. Audio-visual materials may be viewed
in the Media Center only.
Holds may be placed on items that are checked out to another person. When the initial due date is reached and /or the item has been returned, the patron who placed the hold will be notified. The item will be held for 7 days at the circulation desk.
All borrowers may use materials for up to two-hour. Reserves do not leave the Library. Reserve items are located at the circulation desk. These items have been placed on Reserve at the request of a professor or they are high use items. Borrowers may use up to 3 items at one time. A current listing of items on Reserve in the library is available on CALCAT the on-line catalog.
All library materials are subject to recall. Items needed for a course reserve must be returned 10 days from the date the recall is placed.
Overdue Books
Books are $.10 per day per book.
Recalls are a $1.00 per day after recall due date.
Overdue Media
CDs are $.25 per day per CD.
Videos and DVDs are $3.00 per day per item.
Damaged & Lost Books
Damaged materials are subject to a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee plus damage assessment, depending upon extent of damage. Lost materials are subject to a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee plus a $50.00 replacement fee.
Notices are a courtesy. FAILURE TO RECEIVE A NOTICE DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A BASIS FOR ALTERING A FINE. Library patrons are responsible for notifying the library of any changes of address or other information.
The ReBL program supports reciprocal borrowing among 25 libraries in Essex County. Jennings Library is a participant in this program. To obtain a ReBL card, Caldwell College members residing in Essex County should visit their public library. College members residing in North Caldwell, West Caldwell, or Essex Fells can obtian a card from Jennings Library. All non-resident faculty, students and staff must apply for a ReBL card at the Jennings Library circulation desk. Patrons are responsible for returning materials to the lending library. Failure to do so will result in loss of ReBL borrowing privileges. The following libraries participate in the ReBL program:

As of January 2002, the college and university libraries in the VALE consortium agreed to extend reciprocal borrowing privileges to their respective full-time faculty, and staff. Effective July, 2004, a number of VALE libraries have agreed to extend reciprocal borrowing privileges to each other's graduate students.
