AN OVERVIEW
Academic Support Center Hours: Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The Academic Support Center at Caldwell College offers academic support services through which students of all abilities can address their long and short-term learning needs in a supportive and relaxed environment. Individual and group tutoring in most academic subjects is available on a scheduled basis. Many drop-in sessions are also offered. Skill-specific workshops are presented regularly to help students develop and improve their study habits and writing techniques. The Writing Center, staffed by professional and peer tutors, has regular hours for scheduled and drop-in assistance. Students may be referred to the Academic Support Center by their professors for skill reinforcement, or they may arrange for their own tutoring by completing the form available in the Academic Support Center Office. Students who excel in a particular course and who have been recommended by their professor, may be invited to work as Academic Support Center tutors.
The Academic Support Center encourages students to become independent and confident learners through academic counseling and the identification of learning styles.

TUTORING
Scheduled individual and small group tutoring sessions in most academic subjects are available by request. Students need to complete a tutor request form in the Academic Support Center. The Coordinator of Tutoring Services will then process the request and schedule a tutoring session around the student’s schedule. Tutoring sessions with peer or professional tutors take place in the Academic Support Center. In addition, tutoring services are free of charge.
Drop-In tutoring sessions are posted outside of the Academic Support Center. Students may come for drop-in tutoring as little or as often as they like, without making an appointment. Please contact the Academic Support Center at 973-618-3271 for details.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER WORKSHOPS
Skill-specific workshops are presented throughout the year to help students develop and improve their study habits and writing techniques. ENGLISH FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS PROGRAM
The Caldwell College English for Non-Native Speakers Program develops the academic language skills non-native speakers of English need to succeed in mainstream American college courses. It offers advanced level courses to improve skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and to enhance understanding of contemporary American culture and the conventions of the American academic community.

Courses are offered sequentially in the Fall and Spring semesters between 8:30a.m. and 4:30p.m., no evenings or Saturdays. Not every course is offered every semster. No beginning or intermediate level classes are available.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
Students who demonstrate skill deficiencies in the areas of reading, computation, algebra, and writing are placed into appropriate English and math courses. Tutoring and lab support enhance instruction.
THE OFFICE OF DISABILITY SERVICES
Caldwell College is committed to providing services and reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities who have met the entrance requirements of the College. Students are encouraged to identify themselves to the Office of Disability Services in the Academic Support Center located on the lower level of the Science Building. Students are required to provide documentation of their disability, which may include the most recent psychological and educational evaluations, diagnosis from a physician and/or any other diagnostic reports that will help us plan for needed support. At the college level, it is up to you, the student, to initiate contact!
You should contact the disability support office as soon as you receive your acceptance letter so we may assure a smooth transition to the College. If you intend to request accommodations for the required Placement Test, we must receive and review your documentation prior to test administration.

WRITING CENTER
Do you have trouble getting started with a paper? Are you less than confident about the quality of your writing? If you answered yes to either of these questions, the Writing Center at Caldwell College can help! Writing lab tutors guide students to become independent, critical thinkers and writers, while upholding the tenets of academic integrity. Tutors can assist with all phases of the writing process, including organization and grammar. The Writing Center provides peer and professional drop-in tutoring 5 days a week. No appointment necessary! The tutoring schedule for the Writing Center is as follows:
Peer tutoring is available Monday – Friday 10:00am – 2:00pm.
Professional tutoring is available Monday through Friday from 2:00pm – 4:30pm
The Writing Center is also open three evenings a week with a professional tutor available:
Mondays 6:00pm-9:00pm, Tuesdays 5:00pm-8:00pm and Wednesdays 5:00pm-7:00pm

THE ONLINE WRITING LAB FOR CE/ED STUDENTS
Writing can be frustrating at times. At any point in the writing process you may encounter a shortage of ideas, have difficulty pulling your ideas together, or you might just be unsure of whether you’ve expressed yourself clearly. Although the most effective writing assistance takes place face-to-face in the Writing Center, an alternative is Caldwell Colege's Online Writing Lab.
This service is available Spring and Fall semesters to only Continuing Education/External Degree students. These students may call (973)618-3643 for availability during Summer Sessions I and II.
