Prospective International Students
Dear Prospective International Student,
Thank you for your interest in Caldwell College's graduate programs. We are a small, private, Catholic, liberal arts college, founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1939. We have an excellent faculty, small class sizes, flexible scheduling, and a rolling admission policy, which means we make admissions decisions soon after you apply, year-round.
The College is located on a beautiful, secure 70-acre campus located 20 miles west of New York City in suburban Caldwell, New Jersey. International students benefit from our small class size and individual attention from professors. Students can enjoy the numerous educational, cultural, and social experiences that are available in and around the New York metropolitan area, yet still enjoy a relaxed campus atmosphere. Also, many corporate headquarters are readily accessible from Caldwell and may provide a variety of internship possibilities.
Caldwell College offers 16 graduate programs, 29 undergraduate degrees, and an adult undergraduate program that features a uniquely structured external degree (distance education) option for adult undergraduate learners. The College provides an excellent liberal arts education through career-relevant programs. The common goal of all our programs is to prepare a diverse population to engage ethically and competently in the many opportunities available in our complex society and global marketplace. Please visit the Graduate Studies page to learn more about the individual graduate programs we offer.
There are two sets of requirements that you need to fulfill in order to be an international student at Caldwell College. First, you must be fully accepted into to the program of your choice after meeting all requirements specific to that program. These requirements are described on the Admissions Requirement Chart and in our Graduate Viewbook and Catalog. I-20 paperwork will not be processed by Caldwell College unless the applicant has been fully accepted to a graduate degree program, and full acceptance requires a complete application dossier.
Second, you will also need to fulfill all requirements specific to international students, as described on our international admissions policy page. Please note that, according to federal guidelines, international applicants planning to enroll under an F-1 visa are eligible only for study in programs defined as full time and not designed solely to lead to employment in this country. Caldwell College graduate degree programs (M.A. and M.B.A.) meet these criteria; however, non-degree programs, including those leading to certification, do not and therefore cannot accept F-1 applicants. For the academic year 2006 - 2007, graduate tuition is $607 per credit hour. Call after March 1 for tuition for academic year 2007-2008. Most courses are three credits. Tuition is subject to increase in subsequent years, and additional fees may apply (for example, for parking, changing programs, etc.). There is no housing set aside specifically for graduate students. A limited number of graduate assistantships are available for which international students may apply; all require part-time work placements in a College office and superior English-language skills. See our assistantship page for more detail. External, U.S. government aid such as grants, loans, and work-study is available only to legal and permanent residents of the United States. Only international students who have a Permanent Resident Alien visa for the entire year are eligible for financial aid. For more information on graduate financial aid, click here.
Please note that the process for international admission and visa application takes a considerable amount of time. It is imperative that you submit all materials early. Otherwise, you may have to postpone admission to the following semester. Please contact our office if you have further questions or would like to have application materials sent to you via e-mail, airmail, or fax.
Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Graduate Admissions Counselor
