1

FRESHMAN

• Learn about the resources available on campus.

YEAR

• Explore majors and minors.

Adjustment

• Meet with the Director of Career Development to discuss your goals.

Inquiry

• Visit the Student Development Center Resource Room in Newman Center on second floor.

Awareness

• Get to know faculty, administrators, counselors and advisors.

 

• Participate in college organizations and clubs; attend special programs and lectures.

• Think about your interests, abilities, values, goals.

• Begin your own personal career development folder.

SOPHOMORE

YEAR

Self-Assessment
and
Exploration

• Consider taking career inventory to assist in identifying values, interests, and skills.

• Develop organizational, time-management, leadership, and communication skills.

• Choose your major; if undecided, seek assistance at the Student Development Center.

• Discuss potential internships and co-op experiences for your junior and senior year with the

Director of Experiential Learning.

• Learn what you can do with your major.

• Attend career-related programs.

JUNIOR

• Develop several career alternatives considering your values, interests, and skills.

YEAR

• Plan an internship or co-op experience through the Experiential Learning Office.

Exploring Options

• Consider going on Information Interviews.

 

• Update your personal career development folder.

• Research potential graduate schools; discuss graduate plans with faculty.

SENIOR

• Identify several job objectives.

YEAR

• Meet with the Career Director if you are unsure about your plans after graduation.

Job Search

• Register for the Ps288 Career Planning workshop and other career workshops for seniors.

 

• Pick-up senior job search materials at Career Development and prepare your resume early.

• Complete an internship experience in your proposed career field.

• Review job listings on-line regularly; research and contact potential employers; attend

 

Backpack to Briefcase Day.

• Network with family, friends, faculty; identify your career objective, and circulate your resume.

• Apply early for Graduate School.
