PLANNING TO ATTEND GRAD SCHOOL?

1. Consider your career goals first:

  • Do you need additional work-related experience before choosing an area of specialization?
  • Have you read about the career field?
Note: SIGI 3 on-line and reading career related books can be very helpful.
These books are available in the Student Development Center Resource Room and Jennings Library.

2. Send for information/catalogs regarding the graduate programs you are considering. Go on-line for information.

3. Consider discussing your plans with your professors and the career counselor.

4. Which graduate programs are right for you? Apply to several after reviewing Peterson’s Guides to Graduate and Professional Programs.

5. Note the application requirements, deadlines, references and tests needed. Different tests are required for graduate programs:

  • GRE/Graduate Record Exam
  • LSAT/Law School Admissions Test
  • MCAT/Medical College Admission Test
  • TOFEL/Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • PRAXIS/Professional Assessment for Beginning Teachers

6. Note that some graduate schools prefer candidates who have worked in that field prior to applying for admission.

7. Read the graduate school articles in NACE’s Job Choices. Copies are available for students in the Student Development Center Resource Room.
