DECIDING ON YOUR MAJOR?

  • Talk with students in different majors and professors from a variety of academic departments, your TSD Advisor, and a career counselor.
  • Interview several people that are in careers of special interest to you.
    (What do they do? Why do they like/dislike their work? What type of academic preparation and work experience was helpful to them?)
  • Choose a course that may open up new academic fields to explore.
  • Consider volunteering some of your time in an area of interest.
  • Visit the Career Planning and Development Office for assistance and resources related to choosing a major.
  • Explore careers and related majors using tools such as FOCUS-2 and What Can I Do With This Major.
  • Take a pro-active role in this important choice.

ONLINE RESOURCE: FOCUS-2 Assessment

FOCUS-2 is a self-paced, online career and education planning tool. You will be able to assess your interests and values and explore career fields and major areas of study that are most compatible with your assessment results. Use FOCUS-2 to compare occupations you are considering and explore careers related to Caldwell College majors.
