From May 24th to May 31st, sixteen Caldwell University faculty, students, and guests traveled to Berlin, Germany.  The trip was co-sponsored by the Departments of Art and History and Political Science, and led by Dr. Jennifer Noonan and Dr. Ben Lammers.  Students had the option of taking courses in Art history with Dr. Noonan or a course in modern German history with Dr. Lammers.  Highlights of the trip included a visit to the Reichstag building, the meeting place of the German Parliament, a walking tour of central Berlin, and a visit to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial.  Art students were also able to visit a number of Berlin’s world-class galleries, including the Pergamon Museum and the Gemäldegalerie.  History students visited museums devoted to the history of Berlin’s Jewish community and to the Stasi, the East German secret police.  Students also had ample free time to explore other sights and attractions in Europe’s most exciting city.  Since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany Berlin has undergone a remarkable transformation, and that transformation continues today.  In the words of Jack Lang, “Paris is always Paris, and Berlin is never Berlin!”
