CALDWELL BASEBALL LOSES PAIR TO START FLORIDA TRIP

The 25th-ranked Caldwell College baseball team began its eight-game swing in Florida with two losses to East Region foes Saturday afternoon at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The Cougars (0-3) lost to 12th-ranked Franklin Pierce University, 10-4, before falling to Southern Connecticut State in a pitcher's duel, 1-0.

The 25th-ranked Caldwell College baseball team opened the 2009 season with an 8-0 loss at Pace University Thursday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The Cougars begin the year with an 0-1 record, while the Setters improve to 4-4-1.

COUGARS CHOSEN FIRST IN CACC PRESEASON BASEBALL POLL

The Caldwell College baseball team, ranked 28th nationally, was picked to win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in 2009, according to the conference's Preseason Baseball Poll conducted by the leagues' 10 head coaches. The Cougars, who won a school-record 34 games en route to capturing the CACC Tournament last season, received four first-place votes and 90 points, 11 more than Dominican College and Philadelphia University, which tied for second in the poll.

CALDWELL BASEBALL RANKED 28TH IN PING! DIVISION II PRESEASON RANKINGS

The Caldwell College baseball team is ranked 28th nationally in Ping! Baseball's 2009 Division II Preseason Rankings, the online publication announced today. The ranking follows a 2008 season that saw the Cougars capture the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and advance to their second straight NCAA Northeast Region Tournament. This is the first national ranking for Caldwell in the 13-year history of the program.

Murphy Signs with New Jersey Jackals

Former Caldwell College baseball standout Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) has signed a professional contract to play for the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Can-Am League. Murphy, who graduated from Caldwell this past May after a stellar career for the Cougars, will be in uniform for the first time tonight when the Jackals take on the Brockton Rox in Brockton, Mass.

fter a tough opening day, the Caldwell College baseball team picked a couple victories on the second day of the Northeast Challenge at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sophomore outfielder Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) drove in six runs with a home run and two doubles to lead the Cougars past Molloy College, 8-3. Three hits from freshman catcher Gabriel Molina (Bronx, NY/Monroe) and a solid pitching performance by freshman Michael Hinchliffe (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) in his first collegiate appearance lifted Caldwell past Queens College, 7-1. The Cougars are now 2-2 on the season.

Sophomore forward Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham) recorded 19 points and seven rebounds as the Caldwell College men's basketball team defeated Felician College, 76-70 in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season for both teams Wednesday night at Job Gym. The Cougars, who held off a late charge by Felician, even their overall record at 2-2 with the win, while the Golden Falcons drop to 3-4.
