Minor in Women's Studies

A minor consists of six three-credit courses for a total of 18 credits. There is one required course, Sc/Ws 316: Exploring Women's Studies; or Ws 320: The Courage to Risk: Current Issues for Women. The minor is a useful support to majors in Psychology, Communications, English, Business, History, and Sociology.

Minors are noted on student transcripts. To do so, students must present a form to the Registrar verifying that all requirements have been met. See the Director for the form and procedure.

Requirements for a Women’s Studies Minor

Students must attain a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the Women’s Studies Minor.

SC/WS 316 Exploring Women’s Studies (3)
This interdisciplinary study of women’s experience provides philosophical, literary and historical perspectives. Readings include the feminist works of Mary Wollstonescraft, Sojourner Truth, Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, bell hooks and others.

WS 320 The Courage to Risk: Current Issues for Women (3)
Focuses on contemporary issues for women, such as women’s health, women and the church, women and the law, women in the creative and performing arts.
